Calabria pushes forward Catanzaro‑Lamezia “City of Two Seas” development plan
Regional authorities in Calabria have moved into the implementation phase of the "Città‑Territorio dei Due Mari: Catanzaro‑Lamezia" project, a comprehensive development programme for the area along State Road 280 linking Catanzaro and Lamezia Terme. At a technical meeting chaired by Vice‑President and Public Works Minister Filippo Mancuso, officials from the regional government, the Chamber of Commerce of Catanzaro, and academic representatives discussed the preparation of a pilot programme document.
Key participants included Pietro Falbo, President of the Chamber of Commerce, and Domenico Passarelli, head of the Calabrian section of the National Institute of Urban Planning. The session also featured university professor Annunziata Palermo, who leads a laboratory on sustainable urban planning, and movement promoter Piero Amato. Discussions focused on integrating urban planning, infrastructure upgrades, environmental protection, and the promotion of tourism and industry, with particular attention to strengthening the SS‑280 corridor, revitalising the former Sir industrial area in Lamezia Terme, and leveraging the university and health hub in Germaneto, Catanzaro.
