Calabria Regional Council admits mountain hospital reform law

The Calabria Regional Council has ruled a popular initiative law proposal admissible, aimed at the requalification of mountain area hospitals. The proposal follows the collection of over 11,200 valid signatures by the “La Cura” committee.

The legislative project focuses on the hospitals of Acri, San Giovanni in Fiore, Serra San Bruno, and Soveria Mannelli. It proposes the creation of a single Hospital Company for mountain facilities and the activation of essential departments, including Surgery, Interventional Cardiology, and Intensive Care.

The Libera Associazione Cittadini Acresi (LACA) expressed satisfaction with the decision, stating it addresses the needs of over 100,000 residents in Calabria's internal areas. The association has long campaigned against the degradation of services and personnel shortages in these regions.
