Calabria schools face contrasting infrastructure and transport issues

In the Calabria region of Italy, local municipalities are facing varying levels of success in addressing school-related infrastructure and service needs as the new academic year begins.

In the province of Reggio Calabria, the municipalities of Caulonia Centro, Caulonia Marina, and Vasì have successfully installed air conditioning units in all classrooms. This rapid intervention was supported by the President of the Calabria Regional Council, Salvatore Cirillo, to mitigate high temperatures for students and teachers.

Conversely, in the area surrounding the Valentini-Majorana school in Castrolibero, students and commuters are facing significant transportation challenges. Despite local mayors from Castrolibero, Cerisano, and Marano Principato submitting all necessary documentation to expand Line 369—a vital link to the Cosenza bus station—the regional administration has yet to implement the requested service increases. Local officials had proposed adding daily trips to ensure students can reliably reach their classes, but bureaucratic delays continue to stall the plan.
