Sila Greca aqueduct receives 75 million euro funding
The Calabria Region has secured 75 million euros in funding to modernize and stabilize the Sila Greca aqueduct system. This investment is the first of four planned interventions aimed at upgrading the Abatemarco-Bufalo-Sila Greca infrastructure, which provides essential drinking water to 47 municipalities in the province of Cosenza.
Managed by Sorical, the project will address long-standing issues such as summer water deficits and frequent pipe failures. Key works include rebuilding derivation, lifting, and accumulation structures on the Trionto River, enhancing the Mucone well field, and constructing a new feeder for Bisignano. Additionally, a new derivation from the Ariamacina reservoir will help ensure water availability during peak summer demand by allowing gravity-fed volumes to reach the Trionto water treatment plant.
