Calabrian communist groups join petition against differentiated autonomy

Rifondazione Comunista and Giovani Comunisti in Calabria have formally joined a popular petition opposing ‘autonomia differenziata’ (differentiated autonomy). The initiative is led by the Comitato in difesa della Costituzione di Lamezia Terme and the regional ‘No AD’ table.

The political groups argue that the proposed agreements between the central government and several northern regions are inequitable for southern territories. They claim the implementation of differentiated autonomy poses a direct threat to essential services, specifically public healthcare, education, and local infrastructure. The organizations warn that such measures could deepen economic and social inequalities, effectively creating a ‘two-speed Italy’.

The petition calls on the Calabria Region, and specifically President Roberto Occhiuto, to take a formal stance against the current pre-agreements. Supporters of the movement state that blocking the project is a matter of democratic responsibility to protect the constitutional principle of equality among citizens.
