Calabrian communities celebrate Emigrant Festivals

Various communities in Calabria are hosting or have recently concluded celebrations dedicated to the 'Festa dell’Emigrante' to honor local roots and the connection between emigrants and their homeland.

In Cicerale, the municipality and the Associazione Culturale San Giorgio have organized an event for August 17. The program includes traditional parades with horses, local games, and a culinary event titled ‘Dal seme alla tavola – Sapori e ricette di Cicerale’. This culinary segment, featuring Mediterranean Diet Ambassador Giovanna Voria, focuses on the local chickpea (Cece di Cicerale) to preserve community history through food and storytelling.

Meanwhile, the 10th edition of the Festa dell’Emigrante in Donisi, within the Siderno territory, recently concluded after two days of music and cultural activities. Rocco Ierinò, President of the Comitato Piazza dell’Emigrante, noted the event's success in reuniting generations and emigrants, emphasizing its role in transmitting Calabrian identity and pride to younger generations.
