Calabria's literary heritage highlighted in Pavese study and new travel book

A recent literary analysis revisits Cesare Pavese’s 1936 exile in Brancaleone, Calabria, emphasizing how the region’s sea, rocks and mythic landscape shaped his writing. The study describes Pavese’s confinement as both a political banishment and a spiritual journey, noting that “only what has passed or changed reveals its true face.”

On July 27, a book titled *Calabria, viaggio ozioso di un Flâneur, anzi due…* was presented in Diamante. Co‑author Carla Ciucci urged readers to fall in love with the region, while mayor Achille Ordine warned, “The destiny of Calabria cannot be left to others.” The work blends stories of locals, emigrants and the land itself, portraying a resilient and hopeful Calabria.
