Calahorra proposes 500,000 euro climate resilience project
The Calahorra City Council has requested a 500,000 euro subsidy from the Biodiversity Foundation to launch ‘Calahorra VERDE’. This initiative aims to create climate refuges and enhance the city's green spaces to improve urban resilience and climate adaptation.
The project seeks up to 300,000 euros in funding through the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER 2021-2027). The largest portion of the budget, approximately 361,991 euros, is designated for plantings and actions to establish three climate biorrefuges in the Víctimas del Terrorismo, Era Alta, and Miguel Ángel Blanco parks, as well as the area between the Tejerías industrial estate and El Humilladero.
Additional funds will support the creation of a Municipal Strategic Plan for Green Infrastructure, Renaturalization, and Climate Resilience, alongside programs for environmental education and communication.
