Calais Campbell addresses family tragedy amid Ravens training camp

Baltimore Ravens defensive lineman Calais Campbell addressed the media on Tuesday, offering his first public comments following a recent family tragedy. Campbell expressed that while the past few months have been difficult for his family, they are working through the situation. He noted that playing football brings him joy and expressed gratitude for the support from the NFL community.

In late June, Atlanta police discovered 71-year-old Nateal Campbell unresponsive in her home during a welfare check. Following the discovery, authorities arrested her son, 41-year-old Ciarre Campbell, who faces charges of murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm or knife. The family previously indicated that Ciarre struggles with mental illness.

Campbell, a veteran entering his 19th NFL season, was permitted to miss early training camp practices following the incident. He has since returned to team sessions in Owings Mills, Maryland.
