Calama Cancer Research Center ranked among Chile's top three

The Calama Communal Cancer Research Center has been ranked among the top three facilities in Chile for its work in cancer prevention and early detection. The recognition was presented in Santiago during the ExpoAPS 2026 event, which brought together health centers from across the country to share programs and knowledge.

Representatives from the Municipal Corporation for Social Development (Comdes) noted that the center's success stems from its territorial approach, bringing preventive health services and diagnostic operations directly to the community. Pía Cortés, Director of Health at Comdes, highlighted the importance of these efforts given the concerning cancer rates in the Calama region associated with environmental pollution.
