Calama municipal stadium faces administrative scrutiny after expired permit
The administrative status of the Zorros del Desierto Municipal Stadium in Calama has sparked debate within the Municipal Council following a report from the Contraloría. The investigation found that a provisional permit granted in 2013 expired in July 2016, and the facility currently lacks the definitive reception required for its present use.
While the report does not explicitly order the closure of the stadium or set a deadline for its shutdown, it requires the municipality to regularize its urban planning status and report on measures taken regarding its use. Calama Mayor Eliecer Chamorro stated that the stadium will not be closed, asserting that the observations are administrative matters that the municipality is already addressing through a proposal submitted to the Ministry of Housing and Urbanism (Minvu).
Chamorro suggested that the regularization process could take between three and six months. Councilman Alberto Muñoz supported the administration, noting that these administrative issues have persisted through previous administrations.
