Calamity Mod Discord server hacked in cryptocurrency scam

The Discord server for the Terraria mod ‘Calamity’, which has over 250,000 members, was compromised on October 9, 2026, in a cryptocurrency pump-and-dump scheme. The breach was executed through social engineering rather than a technical vulnerability.

Two malicious actors successfully impersonated former moderators to trick the server owner into granting them administrative permissions. Once they gained control, the attackers sent a server-wide notification that initially led members to believe the long-inactive mod development might be resuming. Instead, the attackers spammed the community with promotional links for a fraudulent cryptocurrency token named after the mod.

The scam operated within a narrow window of approximately one hour. Subreddit moderators issued an emergency warning during the incident, instructing community members to leave the server immediately and avoid the promoted token. While administrators attempted to delete channels and messages to mitigate the damage, the attackers utilized the massive reach of the established community to drive traffic to their scheme.
