On September 10, a comet-derived rock entered the atmosphere at an estimated speed of 128,000 kilometers per hour. This fireball began at an altitude of 98 kilometers over Ciudad Real and moved northwest before extinguishing at 38 kilometers. That same night, cameras captured a 'sprite'—a red spectrum phenomenon lasting between 3 and 10 milliseconds—triggered by a powerful storm near the observatory.
In the early hours of September 11, a superbolide was observed northwest of the Balearic Islands. This comet-related rock impacted the atmosphere at approximately 238,000 kilometers per hour, with its luminous phase beginning at 165 kilometers above sea level and ending at 74 kilometers over the Mediterranean Sea.
