Calbuco student suffers jaw fracture following school assault

A student at the Putenio Rural School in Calbuco, Los Lagos region, suffered severe facial injuries and a fractured upper jaw following an alleged assault by a classmate. The incident, which reportedly occurred on October 28, left the minor unconscious for several minutes and required surgery at the Puerto Montt Regional Hospital.

The school activated the “Aula Segura” protocol for the first time in its history following the event. The victim's mother reported that the altercation allegedly began after her son accused the peer of breaking a pipe in a bathroom.

The family is currently evaluating legal actions, including a lawsuit for damages and a potential criminal complaint, as the Public Ministry investigates the case. The legal representative noted that the mother, the primary breadwinner, has faced economic difficulties due to the need to care for her son during his recovery.
