An 83-year-old woman, Maria Luisa Riva, was killed on Tuesday evening after being struck by a vehicle on the SS 342 Briantea in Calco. The incident occurred around 8:30 PM while the victim was using a pedestrian crossing to reach a chapel for a patron saint celebration.

Witnesses and investigators report that the driver of a Peugeot was traveling at high speed. Following an investigation by the Carabinieri of Merate, which utilized CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts, a 56-year-old man from Brivio identified as the driver turned himself in at the police station the following day.
