Calcutta High Court directs West Bengal to ensure student safety on campuses

The Calcutta High Court has directed the West Bengal government to take proactive measures to ensure student safety on university campuses across the state. A Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice Ravindra Vithalrao Ghuge and Justice Om Narayan Rai, observed that the mere installation of CCTV cameras is insufficient to protect students.

The court emphasized the need to maintain a proper academic environment and prevent anarchy on campuses. Specifically, the bench called for heightened security focus at Diamond Harbour Women's University to prevent any lapses. The court is currently seeking security-related reports from various universities, with the next hearing scheduled for December 10.
