Calderdale Council rolls out new waste partnership and approves beauty suite plan

From 1 August, Calderdale Council will hand over household waste and recycling collections to a new partnership with Norse Group, forming Calderdale Norse. The arrangement ends the council’s contract with Suez and includes a fresh fleet of vehicles to serve roughly 95,000 homes and manage more than 7.5 million collections annually. Council officials say collection days and recycling procedures will remain unchanged, while the partnership aims to generate local employment and support small‑to‑medium enterprises.

Separately, Calderdale Council has received a planning application (ref 26/00618/FUL) to convert the first and second floors of a Brighouse property on Bradford Road from an Airbnb flat into a beauty‑treatment suite offering nail, massage and makeup services. The ground‑floor café bar, known as the Truth bar, will continue operating, and the existing internal staircase will be retained. The proposal, supported by agents Jason B. Wade Ltd, cites the location’s proximity to Brighouse bus and train stations and argues that a beauty suite is a less onerous use than residential accommodation.
