Calea Ferată din Moldova reports 22.7 million lei profit
Calea Ferată din Moldova (CFM) has recorded a profit of 22.7 million lei during the first nine months of the year, marking a significant turnaround following years of heavy losses and wage arrears. This financial recovery follows periods of substantial deficits, including approximately 320 million lei in 2024 and 85 million lei in 2025.
Vice Premier and Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Vladimir Bolea, attributed the performance to the resumption of grain exports and the operationalization of the Fălciu – Cantemir border crossing, which generated over 30 million lei in revenue. Despite facing high fuel costs purchased at market rates, the enterprise successfully transported approximately 2.7 million tons of goods, primarily agricultural products and cereals.
To ensure long-term sustainability, CFM is undergoing structural reforms aimed at reorganizing the enterprise into two separate joint-stock companies. These measures are intended to improve management efficiency and operational responsibility. The company has also prioritized the full repayment of historical salary arrears accumulated during previous years of financial instability.
