Caleb Williams and Dave Portnoy engage in social media dispute

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy and Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams have engaged in a social media dispute following Williams' recent hamstring injury. During an episode of ‘Wake Up Barstool’, Portnoy criticized Williams, calling him a ‘thespian’ and suggesting he overreacted to the injury after being carted off the field during a game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Williams responded by reposting a social media comment that accused Portnoy of having a student arrested and expelled following an incident in Mississippi. The repost referenced a previous event where a student was arrested for throwing coins and making antisemitic remarks at Portnoy during a pizza review.

Portnoy subsequently addressed the claims on X, stating that he did not cause anyone to be expelled and characterized the reposted comment as ‘spreading disinformation’. He maintained that the individual involved was a ‘moron’ who faced consequences for his own actions, while adding that he remains supportive of Williams and the Chicago team.
