Calella prepares for new urban cleaning contract as service upgrades begin

The Calella municipal council has stepped up street cleaning and waste collection after residents complained about litter accumulation on the Far road and near the Capaspre stream. The council urged citizens to report problems via a dedicated WhatsApp line.

The city’s long‑delayed urban cleaning contract, worth €262 million for ten years, was finally cleared after FCC’s legal appeal was rejected by the Catalan Court of Contracts. The contract will be awarded to Ilnet, a joint venture of Romero Polo and Valoriza, and is set to start on 19 August. Ilnet will add 95 workers to the existing 210 staff, replace most of the fleet with 119 new vehicles, and increase pressure‑wash cleaning by 41 %. Additional measures include more frequent container collection, door‑to‑door waste pickup in industrial zones, and the provision of small wheeled containers for businesses.
