Caleta Olivia councilman proposes banking choice for municipal workers
Councilman Carlos Aparicio has introduced a legislative project in the Caleta Olivia Deliberative Council to allow municipal workers to freely choose the banking institution where they receive their salaries. The initiative aims to grant employees greater autonomy and prevent financial difficulties caused by automatic debits and debts that can significantly reduce their take-home pay.
Under the proposal, workers could request that their wages be credited to any account held at a bank authorized by the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic. The process is intended to be voluntary, free of charge, and revocable. The project stipulates that changing banks must not result in delayed payments, loss of labor rights, or any unfavorable treatment by the municipality.
The proposal comes amid reports of dissatisfaction with the current financial agent, Banco Santa Cruz, with workers citing issues such as lack of notifications and excessive deductions. Aparicio noted that the initiative seeks to ensure salaries serve their primary purpose of supporting workers rather than acting as tools for indebtedness.
