Calgary boy recovers in hospital after near drowning in B.C. river
A nine-year-old boy from Calgary, Paul-Angelo Warren, is recovering in a medically induced coma at BC Children’s Hospital after nearly drowning in the Shuswap River near Enderby, British Columbia.
The incident occurred on August 3 at W. J. Tuey Regional Park. While swimming, the boy was reportedly pinned against fallen deadwood by the river’s current and remained underwater for an estimated five to 10 minutes. Bystanders, including a doctor and nurses present at the beach, performed CPR until paramedics arrived.
A GoFundMe campaign has been established to support the Warren family during their recovery process. Local RCMP officials have used the incident to remind the public of the dangers associated with moving water and the importance of using personal flotation devices.
