Calgary father rescues son from near‑drowning in BC's Shuswap River

On August 3, a Calgary family visited W.J. Tuey Regional Park in Enderby, British Columbia. While swimming in the Shuswap River, nine‑year‑old Paul‑Angelo Warren was pulled downstream and became trapped under driftwood. He remained underwater for five to ten minutes before a group of beach‑goers, including several health‑care professionals, pulled him out and performed chest compressions and rescue breaths. “His wife’s looking at him and next thing she knows, all she sees is a hand,” the father, Matthew Warren, recalled. Paramedics arrived shortly thereafter and transported the boy to hospital in critical condition. The incident was described by Warren as a “miracle” because of the immediate medical assistance provided by the on‑site nurses and doctors.
