Calgary Flames recall two players amid schedule changes

The Calgary Flames have recalled forwards Aydar Suniev and Jonathan Castagna from the AHL Calgary Wranglers. The moves follow the decision to pass Connor Zary and Brayden Pachal through waivers, leaving roster openings.

Aydar Suniev, a 21-year-old Russian left winger drafted 80th overall in 2023, previously played for UMass-Amherst and the Penticton Vees. Jonathan Castagna is a 21-year-old center from Toronto, selected 70th overall in the 2023 NHL Draft.

Separately, the Flames are adjusting to schedule changes in Western Canada resulting from Alberta’s decision to adopt permanent daylight saving time. The shift will lead to several late-night puck drops at 9 p.m., which team officials noted may impact family attendance and create a different atmosphere for home games.
