Calgary Flames see rising Slovak presence with Šimon Nemec

A growing Slovak presence is emerging within the Calgary Flames organization. Defenseman Šimon Nemec, who recently joined the team from the New Jersey Devils, has signed a five-year contract worth $36.25 million. Nemec has expressed enthusiasm for his new role, noting that he aims to contribute to power plays, penalty kills, and critical game moments.

Nemec is joined in Calgary by teammates Martin Pospíšil and Samuel Honzek. Pospíšil, who is transitioning into a center role for the fourth line under head coach Ryan Huska, has been assisting Nemec with his acclimation to the city. Meanwhile, Honzek is competing for a roster spot following a period of recovery from injury, showing strong form during training camp.

Coach Ryan Huska is emphasizing a more direct style of play around the crease, a strategy that aligns with the skill sets of the incoming players. During recent preseason action, Nemec saw significant ice time, playing over 23 minutes in a game against Edmonton, signaling the team's intent to utilize him heavily in the upcoming season.
