Calgary murder of Shannon Burgess leads to husband Joshua Burgess conviction

Actress and comedian Shannon Heather Madill Burgess vanished from her home in Calgary, Alberta on November 27, 2014. She was reported missing on December 1 after failing to attend a family dinner. Police investigations, highlighted in NBC’s Dateline episode “The Night of the Audition,” traced her last known location to an alley outside her residence on November 28 and uncovered inconsistencies in her husband Joshua Burgess’s statements.

Detectives obtained search warrants for the couple’s vehicles and phones in July 2015. Evidence, including cellphone records and witness testimony, pointed to Joshua Burgess’s involvement. He eventually confessed to the killing, leading to his arrest and subsequent conviction for the murder of his wife.
