Calgary seeks bids for major stadium feasibility study

The City of Calgary is seeking bids for two contracts to assess the feasibility and planning of a proposed major sports and event facility. The estimated cost for the study is $875,000, with a contract award expected in October.

The study will examine market, financial, and operational feasibility to assist city officials in making decisions regarding the future of McMahon Stadium and related infrastructure. The 66-year-old facility currently serves as the home for the CFL’s Calgary Stampeders and the University of Calgary Dinos.

Concerns regarding the aging facility have been raised by the McMahon Stadium Society, which oversees operations. Steve Allan of the society noted that the stadium is “way beyond its best before date” and highlighted recent high maintenance costs, including nearly $1 million spent on sewage and water issues to prevent potential failure before the upcoming 113th Grey Cup game.
