Calgary to host city-wide Curbside Treasure Hunt in September
Calgary is hosting its city-wide Curbside Treasure Hunt on September 12 and 13. The initiative, introduced by the City of Calgary in 2024, aims to reduce landfill waste by encouraging residents to give unwanted, usable items a second life.
Participants are encouraged to place items such as books, furniture, electronics, toys, and kitchenware on their curbsides, clearly marked with a ‘Free’ sign. To assist hunters, residents can add their locations to an online Treasure Hunt map. Those living in multi-family complexes, such as apartments or condos, can participate by coordinating shared drop-off locations with their property managers.
For safety, the city advises against putting out hazardous or unsafe items, including mattresses, toilets, recalled products, or baby gear that may not meet current safety standards. Residents are asked to remove any untaken items from the curb by 5:00 pm on Sunday, September 13, and consider donating them to local charities.
