Cali authorities manage earthquake recovery and evacuations
Following an earthquake on August 10, authorities in Cali are implementing emergency measures to address structural damage and urban recovery. Gestión del Riesgo has ordered the immediate evacuation of the four towers in the Unidad Residencial Tribeca, affecting approximately 500 apartments. Residents have expressed concern over the suddenness of the order, noting that previous reports from the administration and Gestión del Riesgo had not indicated an immediate risk requiring displacement.
In other parts of the city, demolition work is underway at the Motel Molino Rojo due to earthquake damage, leading to road closures at Calle 10 and Carrera 39. Local authorities have advised drivers to use alternative routes as transit agents manage mobility in the area.
To commemorate the city's history of recovery, the exhibition ‘Cali, después del ruido’ will open on September 25. The event draws parallels between the current seismic situation and the 1956 dynamite explosion, aiming to highlight the city's resilience and historical capacity to rebuild after major disasters.
