Cali commemorates victims one month after devastating earthquake

One month after an earthquake centered in Chocó devastated the region, the city of Cali is holding memorial services to honor the victims. The disaster resulted in over 300 deaths nationwide, with 154 fatalities recorded in Cali. Mayor Alejandro Eder led commemorative acts, including a symbolic reading of the victims' names and a mass, while acknowledging the 45,139 families affected by the event.

In response to the emergency, the Alcaldía de Cali has managed more than 700 tons of donations provided by citizens, businesses, and international governments. These supplies, which include food, water, medical supplies, and hygiene products, have been distributed through life kits. To date, 568 tons of aid have been delivered to affected families in Cali and surrounding municipalities, with 507.8 tons specifically reaching residents within the city.
