Juan David Gómez, 29, and his two-and-a-half-month-old son, Salomón, survived being trapped under the rubble of the Torres del Limonar building in Cali following an earthquake on August 10, 2026.

During the collapse, Gómez attempted to evacuate the first floor with his son but was buried under concrete and debris. He remained trapped for over 40 hours, during which he focused on keeping the infant alive and shouting for help. Rescue teams eventually located them after Gómez cried out, “¡Auxilio, estoy con un bebé!”

While the father and son were rescued, the tragedy claimed the lives of Gómez’s wife, Valentina Vanegas, 39, and his brother, Juan Esteban, both of whom were found dead under the ruins days later.
