Cali healthcare infrastructure undergoes reconstruction after earthquake

Following an earthquake on August 10, authorities are managing the impact on healthcare infrastructure in Cali. The Hospital Regional de Alta Complejidad (HRAC) reported that its outpatient building, which is in the final stages of construction, resisted the seismic activity. While the structure remains stable, minor masonry damage was identified that requires repair to maintain the project's schedule. Excavation for the second phase, involving the hospitalization building, continues without interruption.

In a broader city-wide effort, a reconstruction plan for Cali’s health network has been established with an investment of approximately $478,512 million. This plan targets eight strategic projects, including the Joaquín Paz Borrero, Primitivo Iglesias, and Carlos Holmes Trujillo hospitals, as well as the Hogar Geriátrico San Miguel.

The earthquake affected 218 health service institutions in the city. Notably, the Hospital Universitario del Valle (HUV) has had approximately 40% of its capacity disabled or evacuated due to structural damage. Additionally, the outpatient tower at the Hospital Carlos Holmes Trujillo was evacuated pending habitability studies.
