Cali proposes acquisition of Salvajina Hydroelectric Plant

The Cali Mayor's Office and EMCALI have submitted a proposal to the District Council to authorize the acquisition of the Salvajina Hydroelectric Plant. Located in the Cauca River basin, the facility provides electricity, regulates river flows, controls flooding, and assists in potable water supply.

To fund the purchase without using additional district budget resources, the proposal suggests an asset exchange mechanism. Specifically, EMCALI would sell its current shareholding in Celsia Colombia to cover the cost of acquiring full ownership of the Salvajina plant. This initiative is part of the Cali District Development Plan 2024-2027.

By incorporating this generation infrastructure into the municipal public heritage, officials aim to increase EMCALI's energy autonomy, strengthen company revenues, and reduce dependence on the fluctuating prices of the energy market. The project was filed by Mayor Alejandro Eder and EMCALI General Manager Roger Mina.
