Calibro 35 releases new noir-inspired album ‘Ellroy vs L. A.’
Italian band Calibro 35 has released their new album, ‘Ellroy vs L. A.’, on the Record Kicks label. The twelve-track record serves as the original soundtrack for the documentary of the same name, directed by Francesco Zippel and produced by Quoiat Films.
The project is a musical tribute to American noir writer James Ellroy and the city of Los Angeles. The music blends cinematic funk, jazz, blaxploitation, and contemporary urban rhythms to inhabit the crime universe depicted in Ellroy’s work. The documentary, which won a Nastro d’Argento award, features Ellroy reflecting on his relationship with Los Angeles alongside archival footage.
To support the release, the band is embarking on a European tour titled ‘Calibro vs L. A.’. The tour includes several Italian dates in cities such as Mestre, Rome, Cagliari, Bergamo, Milan, and Genoa, as well as international stops in London, Madrid, Ljubljana, Belgrade, and Zagreb through early 2026.
