California allocates $3 million to expand food delivery access

The California state Legislature and Governor Gavin Newsom have approved a $3 million budget allocation to expand food delivery access and combat food insecurity across the state. The funding is intended to support food delivery operations and direct food purchasing for five regional food banks: the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, Second Harvest of Silicon Valley, Second Harvest Food Bank Santa Cruz County, Food Bank of Santa Barbara County, and the Emergency Food Bank of Stockton/San Joaquin.

The initiative follows advocacy by the California Food Bank Delivery Alliance, a coalition organized with assistance from DoorDash. The investment aims to help individuals facing transportation and mobility challenges that prevent them from accessing nutritious food through traditional distribution methods.
