California and federal government clash over energy policy and National Guard authority

A significant legal and political conflict is unfolding between the state of California and the federal government. The U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in favor of Governor Gavin Newsom and Attorney General Rob Bonta, determining that the federalization and deployment of the California National Guard in Los Angeles by President Trump constituted an abuse of authority and a “violation of the constitutional separation of powers.”

Separately, U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright has criticized California’s climate and energy policies. Wright argues that the state’s green agenda, including refinery closures and higher taxes, is driving employment abroad and increasing energy costs for local families. This tension highlights a broader dispute between the Trump administration’s energy dominance agenda and California’s environmental regulations.
