California approves $95.2 million for ZEV infrastructure expansion

The California Energy Commission has approved a $95.2 million investment plan to expand zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) infrastructure. Administered through the Clean Transportation Program (CTP), the funding aims to support the state’s transition to cleaner transportation by enhancing electric vehicle charging and hydrogen refueling capabilities for light-, medium-, and heavy-duty vehicles.

The allocation includes $48 million for light-duty electric vehicle charging, focusing on fast-charging stations and residential options. An additional $30.2 million is designated for medium- and heavy-duty infrastructure, targeting freight operations, ports, public fleets, and school buses. The plan also earmarks $15 million for hydrogen refueling and $2 million for workforce development.

A central requirement of the program is equity, with at least 50 percent of funding directed toward projects benefiting low-income and disadvantaged communities. Since 2008, the CTP has directed more than $2.7 billion toward zero-emission transportation infrastructure and related projects.
