California authorities arrest suspect in massive wildlife poaching bust

A Bakersfield resident was arrested on September 24 following a months-long investigation into poaching activity in Kern County, California. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) executed search warrants at two properties: one in Bakersfield and another in Stallion Springs in the Tehachapi Mountains.

During the raids, authorities seized 931 black bass, six sets of deer antlers, and various packages of suspected deer and bear meat. Investigators determined the suspect had illegally harvested deer without proper licenses or tags, including out-of-season does and spike bucks.

The suspect was booked into Kern County Jail and faces multiple charges, including unlawful possession and take of deer, as well as taking fish and wildlife in excess of three times the daily bag limit. Samples of the meat and antlers have been sent to the CDFW Wildlife Forensics Lab for DNA analysis to determine the genetic profiles of the animals.
