California bride gifted wedding dress after racist proposal interruption

Hayley Lugo, a California bride-to-be, was gifted a wedding dress by Lisa Clark, the owner of Saint Clark Bridal Suite in Monrovia, following a racist incident during her engagement.

The proposal took place at Crescent Bay Point Park in Laguna Beach. As an arranged mariachi band began to play, an unidentified woman walking a dog approached Lugo and her fiancé, Emmanuel Banuelos, and told them to ‘go back to Mexico’. Lugo noted that the verbal assault felt like an attack on Hispanic culture as a whole.

In response to the ordeal, Clark provided the wedding gown to demonstrate that ‘the world is not full of hate’. Lugo expressed gratitude for the gesture, stating she felt ‘very blessed’ to receive support from kind individuals following the traumatic experience.
