California coast under high surf and coastal flood advisories
The National Weather Service has issued high surf advisories and coastal flood warnings for several California coastlines, including Malibu, Los Angeles, and Santa Barbara counties.
In Los Angeles County, breaking waves could reach up to eight feet, accompanied by dangerous rip currents and potential coastal flooding. Morning tides are projected to reach approximately eight feet, which is roughly two feet above the astronomical high tide. Vulnerable areas include the Alamitos Peninsula, Naples in Long Beach, and Malibu, where seawater flooding may affect beach roadways and coastal structures. Significant beach erosion is also anticipated.
In Santa Barbara County, a Beach Hazards Statement and Coastal Flood Advisory are in effect through Tuesday afternoon. Residents are warned of minor to moderate flooding near low-lying beach and harbor areas during high tide. Authorities emphasize the increased risk of ocean drowning and urge the public to stay out of the water and off rock jetties due to life-threatening rip currents and large waves.
