California conservationists seek public help reporting monarch butterfly sightings

Conservationists are calling for public assistance in reporting sightings of western monarch butterflies. As the butterflies prepare to migrate to coastal California groves for the winter, data from these observations will assist scientists in tracking their locations throughout the year.

The initiative is supported by the California State Parks Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving state biodiversity. The effort coincides with California Biodiversity Day, a nine-day period intended to promote the protection of natural ecosystems.
