California counties monitor Arizona farmworkers for measles

Public health officials in California are actively monitoring a group of about 140‑150 agricultural workers who recently moved from Arizona to Fresno, Madera and Merced counties for possible measles exposure. The workers are being checked for symptoms such as fever, cough, runny nose or rash, and no measles cases have been confirmed among them so far. The California Department of Public Health, together with local health departments and the Arizona Department of Health Services, says the risk to the general public remains low and urges anyone with symptoms to contact a healthcare provider.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 2,371 confirmed measles cases nationwide this year, the highest count since 1991. California has experienced three localized outbreaks this year, all resolved, with 53 confirmed cases reported through July 27. Ongoing monitoring aims to quickly identify any additional cases that could arise as more exposed workers may arrive in the coming days.
