California DMV orders 11,000 drivers to retake tests over suspected cheating

The California Department of Motor Vehicles flagged irregularities in written‑driver‑knowledge test results and sent letters to about 11,000 licensed drivers ordering them to retake the exam within 30 days or lose their licences. The agency said the issues appear to be "test‑taker related" and not caused by a technical glitch or artificial intelligence.

Drivers who fail to comply risk immediate cancellation of their driving privileges, and several cases have already been referred to county district attorneys for criminal prosecution. A DMV spokesperson said, "The California DMV has identified irregularities in certain driver knowledge test results that may indicate instances of cheating." The move follows internal monitoring that detected suspicious patterns, prompting the agency to tighten exam security and continue monitoring results while working with prosecutors.
