California election investigations and noncitizen voting measure withdrawn

Federal prosecutors have opened multiple investigations into California's June 2026 primary results, focusing on mail‑ballot procedures, late‑count vote swings and alleged false registrations. The U.S. Attorney's Office in Los Angeles confirmed the probes after President Trump asked for a review, citing a recent guilty plea involving fraudulent voter registrations and raising concerns about the state's automatic mail‑ballot system.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles City Council unanimously voted to remove a ballot measure that would have allowed noncitizens—including DACA recipients, temporary protected status holders and legal permanent residents—to vote in city and school board elections. The council sent the draft language to a committee for further study and also withdrew a separate proposal giving the council authority over the Los Angeles Police Department.
