California Golden Bears launch first fall camp under new coach Tosh Lupoi

University of California, Berkeley's football program began its first fall camp for the 2026 season under first‑year head coach Tosh Lupoi. Hired in December, Lupoi has completely reshaped the staff and added more than 30 players via the transfer portal while also assembling a high‑school recruiting class for the future. The Bears are preparing for a 12‑game schedule that opens with a home game against UCLA on Sept. 5 at Memorial Stadium.

Returning sophomore quarterback Jaron‑Keawe Sagapolutele, who posted 3,454 passing yards and 18 touchdowns as a freshman, is highlighted as the team's key leader. Lupoi praised Sagapolutele’s character and on‑field growth, saying the squad is “excited to let it rip.” The revamped roster includes new transfers at wide receiver, running back and tight end, and the program aims to improve on a decade that has seen only one winning season.
