California Governor signs Agua Caliente tribal gaming compact

Governor Gavin Newsom has signed Assembly Bill 2173, ratifying an amended tribal-state gaming compact between the State of California and the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians. The legislation extends the agreement through December 31, 2061.

The amendment allows the tribe additional flexibility for economic growth, including the capacity for up to 500 additional gaming devices. It also restructures the tribe’s contributions to California’s Revenue Sharing Trust Fund, which supports non-gaming and limited-gaming tribes throughout the state. The bill passed the California Legislature without opposition and took effect immediately as an urgency measure.
