California high school football prepares for 2026 season

High school football programs in the Coachella Valley area are preparing for the 2026 season with significant changes. Indio High School is transitioning to the Sun Valley League, moving away from the Desert Valley League. The Rajahs will face opponents such as Desert Mirage and Cathedral City High School under new head coach James Dockery, a former NFL player who is implementing a new offensive and defensive system.

Meanwhile, Palm Desert High School enters the season following a 9-4 overall record in 2025. The Aztecs are scheduled to compete in the Desert Empire League, with their season opener set against Brawley on August 21.
