California Highway Patrol to increase Bay Bridge carpool lane enforcement

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) will increase enforcement of carpool and bus lanes on the westbound approach to the Bay Bridge toll plaza. The Metropolitan Transportation Commission announced the plan to target drivers improperly using the lanes on the right side of the approach, which can be accessed via Interstate 80, Interstate 880, or West Grand Avenue.

During weekday hours of 5-10 a.m. and 3-7 p.m., these lanes are reserved for buses, motorcycles, or carpools with three or more occupants. At all other times, only buses are permitted to use the lane. Drivers found in violation during the specified weekday hours face a minimum fine of $490. Officials stated that the focused enforcement aims to address ongoing violations and ensure the lanes remain available for their intended use.
