California invests in clean vehicle infrastructure and high-speed rail

California is advancing major transportation infrastructure projects focused on sustainability and high-speed connectivity. The state has announced a US$ 95.2 million investment to promote its sustainable transport program, specifically targeting zero-emission vehicle infrastructure. Of this total, US$ 48 million is dedicated to installing electric vehicle charging stations. The funding also covers support for commercial vehicles, hydrogen supply, and professional training programs to develop a skilled workforce capable of maintaining new power and communication systems.

In a separate development, a new high-speed rail project aims to connect San Francisco to the Los Angeles region. The planned 795-kilometer electrified rail system is designed to allow trains to reach speeds of up to 354 km/h, potentially reducing travel time between the two metropolitan areas to less than three hours. The initial phase of construction is concentrated in the Central Valley, specifically the stretch between Merced and Bakersfield. As of June 2026, significant portions of the infrastructure and various large structures were already completed, with recent approvals granted for the installation of electrified tracks and control systems.
