California launches ‘Made in California’ manufacturing label
Governor Gavin Newsom has launched ‘Made in California,’ a new statewide labeling and marketing program designed to promote products that are ‘substantially made’ within the state. The initiative aims to increase the visibility of California’s manufacturing sector among consumer groups.
Eligible manufacturers, ranging from large corporations to small businesses, can apply to use the official label. To encourage early participation, the state is temporarily waiving application fees. The program targets a diverse array of industries, including biotechnology, food and beverage, and consumer goods like surfboards.
California’s manufacturing sector is a significant economic driver, producing $385 billion in economic output in 2025, which accounted for 9% of the state’s GDP. Approximately 90% of the state's manufacturers are classified as small businesses.
